Saunter down memory lane at Coburg Carnivale. As part of the 2017 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Memento Media is proud to partner with Moreland City Council to present ReCollection. Share your stories and memories about life in Moreland in our specially built ReCollection Recorder at Coburg Library. It will be held on Friday the 22nd 3pm – 7pm and Saturday the 23rd of September 11am – 3pm.
ReCollection is about celebrating, sharing and capturing the memories of Moreland’s places, history and faces. It is an opportunity to engage in local history and a conversation with your neighbours. People of all ages are invited to contribute their filmed memories to the collection. We’ll bring the prompts; you bring the memories.
How it works
The ReCollection exhibit showcases short documentaries and printed historical material which will be used to help you take a trip down memory lane. If you want to add your memories or photographs to the collection, you are invited into our ReCollection Recorder. There we will ask you to share your stories on film and may prompt you with historic photographs and a few questions to help get your memories flowing.
The interview process will take between 10 and 20 minutes and we’ll be guided by you in what you choose to share and how much or little information you want to provide. If you’re not comfortable answering some questions that’s fine, we’re looking for stories (not a scoop), so you’re in charge!

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I arrive and how long will the session last?
Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your allotted booking time to allow yourself time to review and complete our paperwork, which includes a project information sheet and consent form.
The filming session itself will last 10-20 minutes. This includes time to set up our recording equipment and to scan any material you may have brought along.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the session?
There are no age restrictions, but if you are under 18 must bring be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a consent form on your behalf to allow you to be a filmed interview participant.
We’d like to see some ID (drivers licence, Medicare card or similar) just so we can confirm you are who you say you are.
What is a consent form and do I have to sign one?
A consent form is a legal document that gives the documentary artist (Jessica Ferrari) and the project partners (Moreland City Council and Memento Media) permission to capture and edit your filmed interview and then make it publicly available. We may publish material online through various websites (Moreland City Council, WikiNorthia, Moreland Libraries, Memento Media, YouTube), on television, and through public screenings and film festivals.
As the purpose of the project is to collect and share Moreland’s memories, we will require all interview participants to sign a consent form. You can download an information sheet explaining the project and sample consent form by clicking on the links.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking: Waterfield and Louisa Streets, Coburg – 3 hour parking / Russell Street, Coburg – ALL Day Parking + 3 hour parking.
Public transport: Tram route 19, tram stop 33 Coburg Mall / Upfield train to Coburg Station.
How will I find ReCollection at the Carnivale?
We’ll be located inside Coburg library. There will be video screens broadcasting local history documentaries and printed items displayed at various locations in the library. Our ReCollection Recorder will be situated in a room near the back wall (directly opposite the entrance) next to the local history room. During the Carnivale there will be signs and people to direct you.
What can I bring into the Recollection Recorder session?
ReCollection is all about creating a collection, so if you have historic photos or newspaper clippings that you want to add to our collection please bring them along. We’ll scan them on the spot and give them straight back. We can capture 2-3 items per interview subject. Please be aware that the items may be made publically available.
Most importantly, please bring your memories, stories and a willingness to share them.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the session?
It is preferred that you bring either a printed ticket or show us your ticket on your phone. But, as long as you know your name and email address or phone number, and you (or a guardian) have some form of ID, that will be enough for us to identify you.
Is my ticket transferrable?
Sure. If you can’t make it, we’d prefer that you send a friend along to sit in the interview hot seat rather than leaving it empty. If you transfer it ahead of time, please let us know so we can update our records.

When and where can I find the stories and historic material that I contributed to the project?
We’ll need some time to compile and edit all the contributions. We might not be able to include everything, but we’ll try to make sure we can incorporate as much as possible. Once we’ve got the documentaries cut together, we’ll make them available via Moreland City Council’s, Memento Media’s and other online channels.
